Post‐Lipitor Treatment of Acute Coronary Syndrome: Focus on the Novel, Biologic Anti‐PCSK9 Agents

This new pharma pricing strategy report, authored by Dr. Larry Gorkin is an in-depth look at

The 26-page report includes an in-depth look at the role of novel biologic agents on the treatment of ACS. Don’t miss this unparalleled look at a statin drug which, at it’s peak, raked in $12.9 billion in sales. See below for more information on: Post‐Lipitor Treatment of Acute Coronary  Syndrome: Focus on the Novel, Biologic Anti‐ PCSK9 Agents

Post-Lipitor Report Background:

In the first quarter of 1996 (1Q96), one might speculate, a confidential, term-sheet
for a licensing opportunity for a drug was circulated to a few within a large
pharmaceutical company. The thought of a fifth statin to the dyslipidemic market
was not too inspiring- even at a time when “me-too” drugs (e.g., a mechanism of
action that is redundant with a launched medicine) were successful commercially.

But this was strikingly different, as the briefing sheet would appear to promise a
developmental, oral statin that could reliably reduce low-density lipoprotein
cholesterol (LDL-c) levels over 45%, from baseline levels, at higher doses. In the
absence of a direct comparison, the level of LDL-c change suggested significantly
greater efficacy than market leader, Merck’s Zocor (simvastatin), which generated
about 35% LDL-c lowering from baseline in the dose range of 20-mg to 40-mg.

As an aside, perhaps the generic name, atorvastatin, was noted- perhaps not. Clearly,
the commercial name, Lipitor, did not exist at that time.

Pharma Market Access Conferences – Spring 2012

March 20th, 2012 admin No comments

2012 is only getting started. But the strategic commercial pharmaceutical landscape continues to experience tectonic shifts. So how do you stay up to date with these rapidly evolving global market conditions?

Well, the best way (if you’re serious about commercial success)… is… to meet industry players face to face, get exclusive benchmarking information and finally explore in-depth case studies to find out for yourself what really works in the ultra-competitive US and global pharmaceutical markets. Sounds good, right? But how do you pick the right pharma conference?

The right event organizer goes a long way. There are a lot of conference companies, but few focus on the industry exclusively, and in as much depth as EyeforPharma. They hold over 50 pharma industry events a year. So you know they have their finger on the pulse.

Personally, I like these guys because their events are always focused on finding the money. And let’s be honest, that’s what matters.

But if you’re looking for more specific recommendations on pharmaceutical conferences in 2012, fear not. After reviewing these programs, I can’t help but bring them to your attention:

This event, held in Zurich May 8th and 9th will explore in-depth how pharma companies can prove payer value during early development with validated commercial, patient and quality of life endpoints.

-       European HTA address from Finn Borlum Kristensen at EUnetHTA –  drug policy adaptations due to shrinking healthcare budgets – future possibilities of a common drug policy in the EU15 / EU27.

-       Payer Experts Session led by the NHS – Facilitated round table discussions and speed dating. Payer Experts will circulate spending 30 minutes on each roundtable group and in one-on-one meetings with delegates.

You don’t want to miss this exciting discussion. I’ll dedicate a future blog post to the most exciting details of the event. But for now, you should sign up here to download the entire brochure.

Pricing and Reimbursement vs Market Access

September 13th, 2011 admin No comments

Pricing and Reimbursement vs. Market Access – It’s a question that keeps coming up. In this blog, I’m going to cut the chase and answer it. Believe it or not, some of my most engaged readers are just getting a feel for the pharma pricing landscape. It’s remarkable. Proof this field is growing.

Anyway, let’s focus. While an absolute ton of rampant debate goes on about market access and pricing and reimbursement strategy, the two aren’t one and the same. Here’s why.

Pharmaceutical Market Access usually refers to the processes companies take to get their drugs commercially available within a given community, country or global region.

Pricing and Reimbursement are terms typically used in a discussion surrounding access to reimbursement (often at a national level, administered by a health or payer authority). Because reimbursement is increasingly influenced by pricing, the two terms are regularly found together. Pricing and reimbursement is usually discussed at a country level, although in countries like Canada and Italy healthcare spend is distributed at a provincial or regional level.

Increasingly, pricing and reimbursement, as well as pharmaceutical market access are contingent upon outcomes and evidence-based medicine. I imagine that’s where the confusion arises. There are many examples of shifts to . But I’m saving those for an upcoming report. Check back in a few weeks.

In the meantime, if you think you need help with a pharmaceutical consultant, learn what to watch for! Please, I beg you: Do your due diligence before making a strategic investment.

Pharma Consulting: When and Where Do You Look?

August 28th, 2011 admin No comments

Pharmapricing.org was established owing to expensive pharma market access conferences and a desire to share top-tier information. But sometimes, whether it’s a new drug application or an independent health economist, you need somebody on site.  Enter Pharma Consulting.

Pharma consultants confer a powerful advantage, if they’re used right. Whether you’re across the pond in London, traveling in Tokyo or at headquarters in New York, the right pharma consulting strategy, executed correctly will set you apart.

Pharma Consulting Can Be Leveraged in Almost Any Circumstance

It doesn’t matter if you’re Pfizer pharmaceutics or a lean biotech start-up. Premium pharmaceutical consulting assistance, used in the right instance, will take you to the next level. Marketers, clinical development scientists and health economists can all leverage pharmaceutical consultants to gain a strategic advantage. Pharmaceutical consulting, used effectively, is like a success injection for the weakest aspect of your business.

But How Do You Choose a Pharma Consultant?

First, define the problem. Why are you even considering a pharmaceutical consultant? You must be up against something big… It’s okay. Stay with me. Here’s what you do next.

Take a good look at your in-house strengths. Inventory. Mark the top three strengths. How do these align with the challenge you’re facing? Be creative.

Step three. It’s time to take a look your gaps. Where are your biggest shortcomings? What exactly is your biggest shortcoming in relation to the goal you’re trying to accomplish? Look at your staff again, are you sure you aren’t looking someone over?

Do all of the above. Only then, should you think about looking for a freelancer or a consulting firm. Be mindful of expertise, inside and outside project scope (the last thing you want is scope-creep).  And finally clearly define your timeline. Give yourself room for error. The smartest people in the industry know: In any competitive environment (but especially the life sciences industry), time is your most valuable asset.

The Best Way To Find Pharma Consulting Help

Before I tell you the absolutely most effective way to find the best pharmaceutical consulting help, remember: You have to think seriously about your goal. Actively audit your internal strengths before you get started. I can’t stress the importance of these two steps. Don’t skip them.

But once you’ve done that. You still need to find a consultant. And guess what? It’s your luck day because I’m about to tell you how. Even better? It’s an extremely easy two-step process to finding a pharmaceutical consultant…

First, ask everyone you know. That’s it. Tell them you are looking for help. Pharmaceutical industry insiders constantly fall short, by not sending a serious email with a clear call for help when they are looking for outside assistance. But what if that doesn’t work?

If you don’t know someone connected enough to solve your problems… and you’re already read this far… well, I’ll tell you what. You know me! I didn’t set up pharmapricing.org because I like houseplants, after all. I have a full roster of industry contacts of every aspect of the market. Most of them have worked at major pharmaceutical companies for large aspects of their career and are veterans in semi-retirement. Industry guerillas who keep their finger on the pulse and are always looking to provide their esteemed input. If you seriously need help and don’t know what to do… Ask me for help. I won’t charge you a penny. I’ll sign your NDA.

I believe we do important work and I’m uniquely positioned to connect with it. I spend my time interviewing the best of the global pharmaceutical realm. They’re not always available, and I can’t guarantee a match. But if you’ve been grasping at straws, I like a good challenge and I’m happy to lend a hand.

This is something you want to get in on, if you have ANY interest in pharmaceutical market access.

Dear Reimbursement, Health Outcomes, or Market Access Professional,

If you have signed up for our pharma pricing strategy updates, you are about to receive two comprehensive, professional quality reports on FDA guidelines for new anti-diabetic treatment options. I was so excited by some of the points brought up by my mentor, and long-time pharmaceutical industry opinion leader, Larry Gorkin, that I decided to make a video case study of an FDA mandated phase III trial by Takeda for Alogliptin, which he alerted me to. It hardly does justice to these life sciences commercial strategy reports, but it’s a tiny glimpse of the comprehensive health outcomes analysis available inside.

If you have not signed up for our reimbursement and market access reports, enter your name and email address on the right hand side… Not only will you get these two comprehensive pricing strategy reports on a therapeutic indication with over 25.8 million patients in America alone, you will get access to a myriad of related comprehensive case studies across numerous disease indications, all pertaining to the most relevant and controversial pricing policy decisions and trends. You will be able to effortlessly analyze factors that influence reimbursement decisions by health technology assessment decision makers, on your own schedule, from anywhere. In the interim though, the video below will give you a brief but limited glimpse of what you are missing.

I hope you enjoyed the video. I encourage you to leave a comment. But please excuse my allergies.
